Reorder pages

Reorder pages shows your PDF as a grid of numbered thumbnails and lets you put them in any order. You can drag them, use the buttons on each card, or navigate the whole thing by keyboard. You can also type the order by hand in the field below, which is the same field the grid fills in. Processing runs in your browser, without sending anything to a server.

How it works

Four steps, nothing to install.

The whole job happens on your computer, start to finish.

1

Choose the file

Drag the PDF into the tool window, or click to pick it.

2

See the pages

The grid draws one thumbnail per page, numbered by its current position.

3

Put them in order

Drag the cards, or use the two buttons on each one to move it back and forward. Each card also has a button to drop it from the result.

4

Reorder and download

Press the button and get the new PDF, with the pages in the order left on screen.

Do I have to drag? What about on a phone?

You do not have to drag. Every thumbnail carries two buttons, one to move it back and one to move it forward, and they work by touch just as they do on a computer. The whole grid is keyboard navigable: focus follows the card that moved, so you never lose sight of the page you are shifting. Dragging is the fastest way with a mouse, not the only way.

What happens to pages I remove from the list?

They do not go into the final file. Remove page 3 and the PDF you get is missing it. The tool shows a permanent warning listing which pages will be left out, and there is a button to restore the original order at any time. This is deliberate: without it there would be no way to drop a page here, and you would have to use the delete pages tool and come back.

Can I repeat the same page twice?

You can, by typing the order by hand (1,1,2 for example). The page is duplicated in the result. The grid never produces repeats on its own: you only get there by typing. It is useful for cases like repeating a cover or a separator sheet.

How do I reverse the whole document?

Type the range backwards in the order field. In a ten page document, typing 10-1 reverses it completely. Normal ranges work too: 5-8 brings pages five to eight in that order.

Your files never leave the browser. Thumbnails are drawn on your computer and no page is sent to a server to be reordered.
Errors and limits

Why does my PDF show no thumbnails?

Above 200 pages the tool stops drawing thumbnails and shows the same grid with the page numbers set large instead. It is not a refusal: buttons, dragging and keyboard all keep working, and the reordering does exactly the same job. The reason is memory: each thumbnail is around 130 KB once decoded, and two hundred of them is close to 25 MB of images alone. Drawing a thousand would kill the page before it became useful.

I typed an order and the tool refused it. Why?

Three possible causes, and the message says which. The order may refer to a page that does not exist (asking for page 99 in a five page document). It may contain characters that are neither numbers nor ranges. Or it may be too long: a repeated range fits in few characters but asks for tens of thousands of pages, and that is refused before any file is built.

Why does the tool not accept an empty order?

Because handing back an identical document is indistinguishable from a broken tool: you would download it, open it, see the same thing, and not know whether you were ignored or something went wrong. It is the same rule the delete pages tool applies to an empty field.

It reorders, but my PDF has bookmarks and internal links.

Bookmarks and internal links that point at specific pages may stop pointing at the right place once the order changes. That is a limitation of building the new document from the pages, and it applies to this whole family of tools, not just this one.

Questions

Questions about reordering pages.

Do I need an account to reorder pages?

Yes. The account (magic link, no password) is needed for the subscription. This tool is part of the Premium subscription, EUR 1.99 a month, which removes the limits on every tool and adds OCR. Sign PDF opens on the free plan, with one signature a day.

Does reordering change page quality?

No. Pages are copied into the new document without being recompressed, so text and images stay exactly as they were.

How many pages can it take?

Up to 200 pages with thumbnails, and above that the same grid with just the numbers. The hard ceiling is 5000 pages: beyond that the tool refuses, because a larger document would kill the tab before producing anything.

Are my files kept on your servers?

No. Since nothing is sent, nothing is kept outside your browser. If you need to repeat the job, open the original file again.

Pages out of order?
Deal with it now.

Open the tool and drag. Nothing to install, nothing sent anywhere.
