Why this exists

Anyone handling contracts, identity documents or bank statements ends up facing the same choice, and both options are bad: pay for an expensive professional suite in order to merge two files once a month, or drop the document into the first free site the search results offer, without knowing where it goes or how long it stays there.

BestPDFInTheWorld exists so that choice is no longer necessary. The tools do the work on the computer of whoever opens them, which is why the question "what happens to my file after I upload it" never comes up: it is not uploaded.

Who makes it

The code and the content of BestPDFInTheWorld are written by Rodrigo, Rodolfo and Leandro, three technology enthusiasts. They are the declared authors on the guide pages of the site, and the same people who sign off the technical decisions behind the product.

The site exists in three languages, European Portuguese, English and Spanish, with all three versions of every page existing side by side. For privacy and data protection questions the address is [email protected].

How it works, underneath

BestPDFInTheWorld processes files in the browser, using the pdf-lib, pdf.js and JSZip libraries loaded into the page itself. When you open a PDF in one of the tools, the file is read into browser memory, transformed there and handed back from there. There is no upload, no processing queue and no copy sitting on a server waiting to be deleted.

Three practical consequences, and none of them is incidental:

• The site keeps working without a network. Once the page has loaded, the tools work offline, because everything they need is already on your computer.
• The speed is your computer's speed. A recent laptop is fast; an old phone with a large file is slow. There is nothing on our side that can make it quicker, and that is the direct price of the file never leaving your machine.
• You can check it yourself, without trusting us. Open the browser developer tools, go to the network tab, and run any task on a PDF. No request carries the file. It is the same check you can run against any other site making the same promise.

Processing in the browser is not exclusive to us, and selling it as if it were would be dishonest: other PDF tools, free ones included, do the same. What is described here is the method to verify the promise, with us and with anyone else.

Nothing from your document ever reaches a server of ours, and that is the promise that matters: not the file, not its name, not the text inside it. Other things do reach us, and they are worth spelling out rather than leaving implied: signing in, through a single-use link sent by email (there are no passwords to lose or reuse); the subscription payment, handled by Stripe, whose card details never reach us; your licence key and a device identifier when you activate Premium, so one key does not end up circulating across dozens of machines; and, for signed-in users, which tool you opened and whether it ran, with nothing of the content. The privacy policy covers each of these with its retention period and legal basis.

What it costs

Sign PDF opens with no account and no payment, with one signature a day and files up to 10 MB. We picked that tool for the free plan because signing is where it matters most that the file never leaves your computer, and it is where the promise of the product shows best on a document of your own. The count resets the next day.

Premium costs 1.99 EUR per month and opens all 33 tools, OCR included, with no daily count and with large batches. There is no annual plan and no one-off purchase. The full detail, with the answers on refunds, VAT and cancellation, is on the pricing page.

An honest point we would rather make ourselves: the daily counter lives in your browser's local storage, and anyone can clear it in one line. It is a brake for honest use, not a security boundary, and it cannot be anything else in a product where the work never passes through a server of ours.

What BestPDFInTheWorld does not do

This is the section that institutional pages usually skip, and the one that saves time for anyone who needs something else. These are real limits, not modesty.

Very large files are slow, and there is a ceiling

Because the work runs on the visitor's machine, a PDF of several hundred pages takes as long as that machine takes, and on a phone that can be a lot. The tools that have to draw the pages stop above 500 pages, deliberately: past that point the wait stops being reasonable, and saying so is better than pretending to be busy.

It is not a replacement for a professional editing suite

BestPDFInTheWorld does document tasks: merge, split, rotate, convert, sign, number, compress, protect, recognise text and a couple of dozen more. It does not do advanced content editing, it does not rewrite the text of a PDF paragraph by paragraph with the original layout intact, and it does not handle prepress or colour management. For that you genuinely need a professional suite.

There are no native apps and no API

There is no application for Windows, macOS, Android or iOS. What exists is the page itself, which can be installed as an app from the browser (a PWA) and then opens in its own window. And there is no API: a team wanting to wire this into an internal system currently has no way to do it.

The signature is a simple electronic one, not a qualified one

The signing tool places your drawn, typed or uploaded signature onto the page. It is a simple electronic signature and it serves the everyday documents that accept one. It is not a qualified electronic signature backed by a certificate (a national digital key, an ID card or a qualified trust service provider under eIDAS), and it does not replace one where the law or the other party requires that level.

Other limits we would rather put in writing

• Password protection encrypts with AES-128, not AES-256.
• There is no password recovery: a PDF whose password was lost cannot be opened here.
• OCR recognises Portuguese, English and Spanish, and does not read handwriting.
• PDF to Word extracts the text into an editable file, but does not faithfully rebuild a complex layout.
• Compression gains far more on scans and image-heavy files than on a document that is already just text.

Privacy: two different things that often get merged

This site makes two privacy promises, and they are different in nature. It is worth separating them, because merging them is the easiest way to make one of them sound like an overstatement.

1. Your PDF files: they never leave your computer

There is no exception and no small print here. No BestPDFInTheWorld tool sends the document anywhere, we do not store files, we have nowhere to store them, and there is nothing to delete afterwards. Closing the tab releases the memory and that is the end of it.

2. Browsing and advertising data: it exists, and it is consented to

The marketing pages of the site (this one, the guides, each tool page, the pricing) load Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Google AdSense, which is what pays for the free plan. None of them creates a measurement or advertising cookie before you decide: consent is denied by default and only changes if you accept in the notice. If you refuse, or simply do not answer, the site works exactly the same way: the advertising decision changes nothing about access to the tools.

The application itself loads none of those tags. The page where the tools run has no Analytics, no Tag Manager and no AdSense, and the security policy the server applies to it would not even allow them to run.

Nothing on this page needs to be taken on trust. Each claim has somewhere it can be verified:
