Edit metadata changes the title, author, subject and keywords that show in the PDF properties window. You can change a single field and leave the others alone, or switch on clear everything and wipe all six fields at once. All processing runs in your browser, without sending anything to a server.

Does this fully anonymise my document?
No, and this is the most important answer on this page. The tool handles the information dictionary, which is what the reader's properties window shows: title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer. It does NOT clear the creation and modification dates, does not clear XMP metadata (an XML block some programs write in parallel), and does not erase names written inside the page content. If the goal is to hand over a document with no trace of the author, this alone is not enough.
Does an empty field erase what was there?
No. An empty field means keep. It was chosen that way on purpose: if empty erased, changing the title alone would silently lose the author, and destroying data by default is the worst possible behaviour in an editor. To erase, there is the explicit clear everything option.
What is the producer field, and why does it change on its own?
The producer says which program generated the file. Many PDF tools rewrite it with their own name when saving, which erases the document's origin. The tools on this site preserve the original producer, and this tool only touches it when you switch on clear everything.
Can I set several keywords?
You can, separated by commas.
I cleared everything and my name still shows in the properties.
It is probably in the XMP block rather than the information dictionary. Some programs write metadata in both places at once, and some readers show the XMP when it exists. This tool does not touch XMP. If the document really has to leave with no trace, the safe path is to export the pages as images and rebuild the PDF from them, accepting that selectable text is lost.
I cleared everything and the dates are still there.
That is the expected behaviour and it is stated in the field help. Creation and modification dates are not cleared. The modification date, in fact, is updated by every tool on this site, because the file really was changed and hiding that would be worse.
The tool refused the job.
That happens when there is nothing to do: all fields empty and the clear option off. Saving the file anyway would be faking work, and you would end up with a new document, indistinguishable from the original, not knowing whether anything had happened.
I changed the title and the file name is still the same.
They are different things. The title is a field inside the document; the file name belongs to your computer. Some programs show the title in the window bar, which is confusing, but changing one does not change the other.

Do I need an account to edit metadata?

Does editing metadata change the pages?

Do not rely on this alone. Since it clears neither XMP nor page content, a document with personal data needs fuller treatment.
